Hong Kong Baptist Hospital (HKBH) is a private Christian hospital located at Kowloon Tong, established in 1963. Hong Kong Baptist Hospital is one of the social service institutions of the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong. In Addition of providing medical services, HKBH also provide teaching venues and equipments for the Division of Nursing and Health Studies of OUHK. Currently there are 5 blocks in HKBH, including Block A, B, C, D & E, with more than 800 beds, which is the largest private hospital in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Baptist Hospital provides obstetrics & gynaecology, in-patient, out-patient, health assessment and investigative services, and also includes Medical Centres and Chinese Medicine Clinic. In addition, HKBH also establishes Continuing HealthCare Education Centre and School of Nursing, providing continuous in-service training for healthcare practitioners and offering Diplomas in General Nursing. Baptist Hospital's founder Hong Kong Baptist Convention was founded in 1938. During Japanese invasion, many Catholics in mainland China came to Hong Kong to avoid war. As a support, churches united together and form Baptist Convention for spread the gospel and support domestic Catholics. Since then, association has been providing different social services, including health, education, community development, and the creation of Baptist Hospital in 1963.
Hospital started services with one block, and gradually expanded in response to the needs, including Block B in 1979, Block C in 1982 and Block D in 2008. The newest building, Block E with 10 storeys and two basement levels is phased opening in 2015.
Hong Kong Baptist Hospital establishes School of Nursing since 1983, offering Diploma and Higher Diploma in General Nursing. HKPH also design and provide different programmes in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE) and the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), and offer clinical internship and training venue to other local universities.
There are currently five levels for obstetrics wards in Hong Kong Baptist Hospital .Each room can accommodate one to six mothers. All rooms are equipped with independent television and radio, some rooms also equipped with refrigerators, telephones and even microwave ovens.
