Kwong Wah Hospital is a public hospital located in Yau Ma Tei, which is currently under the Hospital Authority Kowloon West Cluster. Kwong Wah Hospital provides a wide range of medical services, including obstetrics and gynecology, neurosurgery, outpatient and 24 hour accident & emergency services, mainly serving citizen in Mong Kok, Sham Shui Po and Wong Tai Sin etc. Kwong Wah Hospital opened in 1911, which is the first hospital in Kowloon Peninsula. After hundred-year development, the current main building of Kwong Wah Hospital divided to 3 wings with 12 storey, providing around 1,100 beds. Kwong Wah Hospital opened since October 1911, is the first hospital outside Hong Kong island, has 72 beds. After World War II, population sharply increase. Kwong Wah Hospital has several expansion projects in 1950, bed number increase to 631 but still couldn't meet the demand. In 1958, a complete reconstruction was started and gradually opened between 1959-1965. New building included east, north and south wing, doctors quarters, nurses quarters and staff quarters.
Joined the Hospital Authority in December 1991, becoming 1 of 44 hospital managed by HA. It also renovated in the mid-90s, improved hospital facilities and purchased new equipments.
n order to strengthen the cooperation between hospitals and increase efficiency in managing patient, Hospital Authority Kowloon west Cluster was established in October 2002. Services include Mong Kok, Wong Tai Sin, Sham Shui Po, Kwai Tsing, Tsuen Wan and North Lantau with population of about 1.9 million.
