Yau Ma Tei Theatre is a performance venue under Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). It was officially opened in July 2012, designated for promoting Chinese opera activities, in particular Cantonese opera. It consists of two graded historic buildings, the former Yau Ma Tei Theatre and the Red Brick Building. The current main facility of Yau Ma Tei Theatre is the 300-seat auditorium, mainly used for Cantonese opera performance. There are day and evening sections for program performance. Day-time programs usually start from 2:15 p.m., and the starting time of evening program is generally between 7pm to 8pm. Yau Ma Tei Theatre consists of two graded historic buildings, the former Yau Ma tei Theatre and the Red Brick Building. The former Yau Ma Tei Theatre was opened in 1930, and graded as Grade II historic building after its closing in 1998. The Red Brick Building was the Engineer's Office of the Former Pumping Station, Water Supplies Department, is located at Shanghai Street near the Theatre. It was graded as Grade I historic building in 2009, and currently used for the administration office and function rooms of the Theatre.
