Queen Elizabeth Hospital Information

Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) started services with 1,338 beds in 1963, and introduced the first Accident and Emergency Department in Kowloon. As the leading hospital of Kowloon Central cluster of Hospital Authority, QEH is one of the three public hospitals providing maternity service in Kowloon. Inpatient healthcard services include Paediatrics, Medicine, Surgery, Neurosurgery, etc. QEH also establishes 24-hour A&E service, Anaesthesia Care Centre, Specialist Clinic & multiple allied health services. Since its comprehensive scale and range of services, QEH is one of the most important public hospitals in Kowloon.

More about Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Before servicing of Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 1963, Kwong Wah hospital was the only hospital in Kowloon Peninsula. As population rapidly growth, Kwong Wah hospital facilities becoming increasingly inadequate. In 1950, the government started planning to build another hospital in Kowloon, which is Queen Elizabeth Hospital. They started servicing with 1338 beds, became the biggest hospital in Kowloon and new territories.

In order to strengthen the cooperation between hospitals and increase efficiency in managing patients, Hospital Authority Kowloon Central Cluster was established in October 2002. Services include a population of about 500,000 in Kowloon City and Yau Tsim district. QEH provides 24-hour comprehensive emergency and medical services, a total of 16 specialist departments, 3 specialist clinics, 5 general outpatient clinics.

Other hospitals and medical institutions in Kowloon Central Cluster included: Kowloon Hospital, Hong Kong Buddhist Hospital, Hong Kong Eye Hospital, Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service, rehabilitation specialist and Resource Centre.
